Who Am I?
While I have been writing since I was a kid (e.g., the Pratchett-inspired short story “Twat Out of Hell”, in which a group of inept magicians summon a neurotic, OCD-ridden demon), I have only been properly blogging and podcasting since 2020, AKA the Year That Broke Reality. It’s been going pretty well.
What Happened to Symbiotic Culture?
I moved over to Substack because Wordpress.org ceased to be functional, in any meaningful sense. First I couldn’t upload any larger media, such as podcasts; it didn’t take long before I could no longer update anything on my site, at all. Tech support had no idea what was going on, so it seemed like a good time to make a fresh start.
Why ‘Flint & Steel’?
After a while, Symbiotic Culture sounded way too much like the name of a psy-trance night, or something like that. I wanted a name that evoked something more primal, and more ancestral. As one of my areas of interest is bushcraft, Flint & Steel popped into my head and produced a nice little ember, so I went with that.
Who Made Your Theme Music?
With a few exceptions (generally when my guest is a musician), the music I use for the podcast is either my own, or my late brother Toby’s work. He was a remarkable man whose music deserves a wider audience, so it seems fitting to help bring that about in my own way.
