Indicative of the attempt to destroy 'gender' and life itself - yes, but buying baby clothes from a chain store might also be well left in the dustbin of history - the disappearnce of this 'baby-store' might be like vacant wasteground in the middle of a city - ripe for natural growth?
Excellent insights brother! It's refreshing to hear your succinct description of this process of economic gender corrosion. It was you in fact that put me on to Ellul. It was a great gift. I will investigate the works of Illich as I respect your recommendation. Look forward to speaking soon man.
I wrote my college thesis in 2007 using a lot of illich about the way changing gender among other things from pre-colonial through industrial conquest and war-horror led to the place where 1 in 100 Guatemalan babies was coming to the US in adoption in those times. Illich is great and I’m so glad for cayley’s work you reference, and for your own time bringing his thinking to the people
I was a geography major and then did an independent undergrad fellowship. I think I’ll publish my thesis on my own young substack. I don’t know how substack deals with 60 pages but I have always kind of wanted to have it ‘out in the world’
Good Shout Moe! I read Ivan Illich's Limits of Medicine. What a perfect prediction of our current predicament. Fascinating how recently our modern paradigm of 'health' was constructed & how deeply embedded it has become. These podcasts you and Luke have been making are vital to my sanity. Much appreciated ♥️
I note that a popular chain selling infant clothing, buybuyBaby, is now closing here in the States.
Ouch.

Thank you, Alice, and your thesis sounds fascinating. What was your field of study?

It is a bad sad story indeed, but we must not cease from mental fight till we have re-builded Jerusalem in this grey and miserable land
